BILL HISTORY The Clean-Air Act expired October 1st of this year. A Lou Harris Poll shows that over 80% of the American Public support either maintaining or strengthening the Clean Air Act. The present administration supports the Traxler-Hillis bill, advocates the doubling of current CO emmission standards and the relaxation of NO and particulate standards. Denver already exceeds public health stanaards for CO emmissions on 1 of every three days. Acid rain in the Rocky Mountains exists and needs to be diminished. We believe that the administration's proposals pose a threat to public health and environment in Colorado BE IT ENACTED by the Exectuive Council of the University of Colorado Student Union, THAT: SECTION 1: A letter of support for the current version of the Clean-Air Act and opposing the Traxler-Hillis Bill, be sent to President Reagan, EPA Administrator Anne Gorsuch, and U.S. Senators and Representatives before 11-17-81. SECTION 2: Costs incurred shall come out of the Executive Council Reserve account. SECTION 3: This bill shall become effective upon passage.
