C.· 1& EXECUTIVE COUNCIL BILL 133 February 10, 1983 UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO STUDENT UNION Sponsored By: Co-Reps from Journalism: Vince Patarino Joan Sullivan A BILL BILL SUMMARY To establish a required familiarization process for newly elected members of Representative & Local School Councils. BILL HISTORY Up until now, newly efected members to the Executive Council have been introduced to the complicated student government structure of UCSU in a negligent and time consuming manner. To an inexperienced initiate half a session may go by before he/she is educated enough to work productively and knowledgeabley in the Union. To truly be worthy of the title "autonomous" we must first take the responsibility to educate our own, realizing Education is our Best Defense. BE IT ENACTED by the Executive Council of the University of Colorado Student Union, THAT: SECTION 1: When new members of Executive Council are elected and/or introduced they shall be familiarized with the functioning of Executive Council, its committees, Joint Boards, and procedures. SECTION 2: The Vice Pro-Tempore shall have the responsibility of distributing familiarization packet consisting of the UCSU Constitution and By-Laws; a listing of Joint Board, Committee, and ad-hoc Committee chairs and members including copies of Joint Board & Committee By-Laws and a listing of current UCSU membership and positions. SECTION 3: The trainee, under the guidance of the Vice President ProTempore, will be required to meet with the following UCSU members: 1) 2) 3) 4) The Pro-Tempore - who shall explain Council procedures and functions. The Parliamentarian - who shall explain Roberts Rules. SECTION 4: A folder containing the copies of all current legislative session shall be available in the UCSU office. The trainee is required to view this before his/her second Executive Council meeting. SECTION 5: This legislation shall take effect upon passage.
