:ยทยท~ . August 4, 1983 19 EXECUTIVE COUNCIL BILL #13 UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO STUDENT UNION Sponsored By: Authored By: Representative-at-Large: Tom Roberts The Executives: Joe Beck & Barry O'Shea Michael Deragisch, Director of KAIR A BILL BILL SUMMARY To provide funding for an FM Frequency Search. BILL HISTORY During the last two years there has been increased interest in the acquisition of an F.M. broadcast facility for KAIR. At this time there are no existing available broadcasting frequencies on the Front Range between Ft. Collins and Colorado Springs. There is one unused unavailable frequency. This now is under the control of Western Bilingual Broadcasting. According to their local contact and the Denver Field Office of FCC, there is no chance in the foreseeable future for acquisition of that frequency. Another possibility of F.M. frequency would be to buy an existing station. After contacting the two most unsuccessful F.M. stations in our area, we found neither willing to sell. Therefore at this time our best alternative is to search the airspace for an available low-powered F.M. frequency. BE IT ENACTED by the Executive Council of the University of Colorado Student Union, THAT: SECTION 1: UCSU shall allocate $2,000 from Central Reserve for an F.M. Frequency Search. SECTION 2: This Frequency Search shall investigate both the commercial and non-commercial areas of the dial. SECTION 3: The UCSU understands this search shall provide: A. B. C. D. Knowledge of available frequency space Diagrams and maps of suggested antenna location Completion of necessary paperwork for FCC filing A total cost of less than $2,000 if no available frequency is found SECTION 4: UCSU understands this is the first in a multi-step process to acquire an F.M. license for CU. SECTION 5: The funding for this legislation shall be available upon passage. 0808199708081997 8/4/83- MOVED TO FINANCE BOARD 19ECB-13 Page -2- 8/18/83- passed by straw vote-5-0, recommended back to council 9/1/83- FIRST READING- PASSED- REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL ACCLAMATION 9/1/83- SECOND READING PASSED- EXECUTIVE COUNCIL- ACCLAMATION }~fkb o L) ~um.Jh Gretchen Roorbach President Pro-Tempore UCSU Executive Council
