This year students have the opportunity to participate in a conference that embraces the teachings of Dr. King and stresses the active, positive role students have in changing their surroundings. Students will have the opportunity to meet the people who were instrumental in the Civil Rights Movement and discuss with them the legacy we have inherited and the work left to be done. Workshops will include: Higher Education--is it a Priority?; a workshop on financial aid, funding and access; Race Relations Within the University, The College Commitment to Civil Rights, The War on Drugs, and more. This national conference will be an excellent opportunity for the UCSU to join with other post secondary educational institutions in working on Civil Rights, and the advancement of higher education while participating in an important na tiona! holiday. BILL SUMMARY UCSU shall send two members from UCSU, proper, and one student group member to the Martin Luther King Commission's National Student Conference, January 17 and 18, 1987. $500 shall be allocated from Central Reserve for the transportation, food and lodging. _BE IT ENACTED by the Executive Council of the University of Colorado Stl.ldent Union, THAT: SECTION 1: UCSU shall allocate $500 from Executive Council Central Reserve to send one UCSU, proper, member and one minority student group member to the Martin Luther King National Student Conference, January 17 and 18, 1987. SECTION 2: A written report about the event shall be submitted pursuant to the provisions of 24 ECB 1/4. Selection shall be made by application and interview.
