Authored by: Representative-at-Large BSA Activities Coord ina tor A BILL John Ramos Stacey Fix Jeff Stephens Catherine Bedell David Aragon Patrice Hauptman John Roberts Wendy Tatlonghari Steve Chase Erica Wilner Joan Kohanski Jeff Stephens Deborah Duncan BILL HISTORY Black History month is an important event nationwide, and is very pertinent to the University of Colorado. In conjunction with this month-long observance each year, the black students within the Big 8 host a revolving conference which deals with the issues that face black students, both in and out of the University community. This year's Big 8 Conference on Black Student Government will be held in Norman, Oklahoma on the campus of the University of Oklahoma February 19-22, 1987. Due to the lack of cultural diversity which exists on a much wider level than just here at CU and the lack of ethnic studies here at CU, it is irnnperative that we take this opportunity to help black students deal with these problems. The Black Student Alliance is sponsoring this year's trip for CU students and they have done an excellent job of going to every available source of funds and any short fall they may have will be made up out of their own pockets. BILL SUMMARY This Bill allocates $1,000.00 to partially fund BSA for the Big 8 Conference this year. BE IT ENACTED by the Executive Council of the University of Colorado Student Union, THAT: SECTION 1: An amount not to exceed $1,000.00, which includes GAR, be allocated from Central Reserve to Black Student Alliance for the purpose of attending the Big 8 Conference. SECTION 2: Each attendee is to submit an editorial to the Colorado Dally and Campus Press. In addition, an orignalidea for education of CU students is to be initiated by the Conference attendees.
