Last year (1986) UCSU sponsored a Bill which funded a picnic given to the Native
American Upward Bound Program. Active in this event were many UCSU
members. In addition to enjoying the festive environment, students were
introduced to New Games. All participants were sensitized to different cultures.
In turn, this helped to disperse negative stereotypes that might have existed.
On July lOth, 1987 from 6:00-7:00pm we have a unique opportunity to bring
together, not only the Native Upward Bound Program but also the Pre-Collegiate
Development Program, a new program called The Tribes. It is our plan this year to
invite these program participants to an Ice Cream Social. Again, its purpose is to
sensitize~ students to different cultures. The Social shall contain leadership
speeches from the following: Eddie Pacheco, Jessica Fowler, Angela Martinez and
Mike Callahan. Also, the Executive Council staff as well as Executive Council
Representatives will be available to any student pursuing interests toward
leadership and/or higher education. We encourage all UCSU members to
participate.
BILL SUMMARY
This Bill shall allocate an amount not to exceed $178 + GAR to host an Ice Cream
Social for 160 pre-collegiate students on July lOth, 1987. Its purpose is to create
positive social ties between the University of Colorado students and incoming
minority students.
BE IT ENACTED by the Executive Council of the University of Colorado Student
Union, THAT:
SECTION 1:

$178 + GAR shall be allocated from the Central Reserve account
for an Ice Cream Social.

SECTION 2:

The money shall be broken down and spent as follows:
Serve ice cream for 144 students
lt dozen brownies
lt gallons of punch
Chairs and microphone rental
Total
$178 +GAR

SECTION 3:

This Bill takes effect upon passage.
