BILL HISTORY
Dr. Norman Myers is an international Consultant in Environment and Development.
He is presently engaged to spend a full day speaking and leading workshops at CU
October 12, 1987. Issues such as C02 build-up, Ozone depletion, climate changes,
toxic-waste management, soil erosion, mass extinction, and tropical deforestation
are ecology topics central to present political, economic, ethical, and environmental strategies; Dr. Myers is. fully versed in all these areas and will cover them
in his day workshops and evening address -- Global Ecology: Causes, Consequenc<!s,
and options to Disaster. Dr. Myers is a very dynamic speaker who is becoming
increasingly important to several of the world's largest development institutions.
He is presently consulting for USAID, World Bank, and the United Nations. His
book, Gaia: An Atlas of Planet Management, is considered a landmark work in
exploring the interconnectedness of global ecological processes. The Sinking Ark is
his much referred to book on species extinction, and The Primary Source: Tropical
Forests and Our Future is also widely read. Hosting Dr. Myers is one more brick in
the reputation CU is building as a na tiona! forum for debate on issues of
environmental health and development.
BILL SUMMARY
This bill allocates $601.24 for advertising for the Norman Myers program.
BE IT ENACTED by the Executive Council of the University of Colorado Student
Union, THAT:
SECTION 1:

An amount not to elxceed $601.24 be allocated from Central
Reserve to fund advertisement for the Norman Myers program
through the Boulder Rainforest Action Group.

SECTION 2:

All student groups who receive special event funding shall
submit a written report to be turned in to the Pro-Tempore
and kept on file for access.

The report shall include the following: 1) General overv lew of
the events and the space of that event,. 2) attendance of all
phases of the event, 3) did the group sponsoring the event
feel they accomplished their goals set forth prior to the event,
4) a detailed account of expenditures.
This report shall be submitted within 30 days of the end of the
event. Failure to do so may jeopardize future funding from
UCSU Executive Council.
This bill takes effect upon passage.
