It is' a .~eryice organization which brings together law students, law schools, the professlofil·and the community. PAD is generally known for its efforts to promote profession~! competency and achievement within the legal profession. It is well kno~n :tor its· outstanding dedication to mutual self-help and to upholding the highest ~I .'professional ethics • .PACfboa,st,s a membership of over 114,000 people throughout the U.S.~ Canada .and Mexico. , PAD offers many professional programs for students which focus , on legal research~ prison and court visitations and practice pointers from judges and ~· · attorneys • .PAD international has an endowment fund for student loans for deserving· individuals. PAD members also work extensively on a juvenile justice : prog'r am which unites members of the profession to reduce crime and juvenile delinque.ri~Y· ..I,n addition, PAD maintains strong alumni chapters. Alumni members .. often· ;par~icipate in school programs and offer valuable legal ~nformation, personal · career ~o:uo·seling and job placement assistance. PAD is also ·reaching out to interested undergraduates. The pre-law program . includes-lectures-and panels about law school experiences, LSAT study sessions and moot ·cciurt competitions. · It is :pa:rticul'arly·noteworthy that PAD has influenced many other legal organiia'tiorisc It was the first to remove the "caucasion only" clause from membership: requ~rements and was the first to admit women.. I CU's 'chapter· is one of the most active and visible groups at the law school and in . the ·lotalcommunity. It regularly hosts brown bag discussions, receptions ·and seminars-. - Currently, it is planning to send six members to the PAD International biennia:l :convention in Scottsdale, Arizona on August 2-7. It has raised almost $700 to meet expenses but needs additional funds to finalize the plans. The delegation is ready, willing and able to schedule Brown Bags and other presentaions. The . convenHori will be discussed in detail and all relevant information will be explained to interested individuals and/or groups. This proposal for funds-is indeed worthy of your consideration because PAD is indeed an asset to the law school, the university and the community. BILL SUMMARY Allocates an amount not to exceed $437.98 from Central Reserve to Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity for the purpose of attending the biennial PAD J nternationa~l ·convention in Scottsdale, AZ on August 2-7. BE It ENACTED by the Executive Council of the University of Colorado Student Union THAT: SECTION 1: The goals and objective of this trip are to better p rovide for and meet the interests and needs of law and pre-law st udents that are relevant to current legal trends and happen ings .. SECTION 2: The purpose of this allocation of mandatory student fee s is to assist PAD in meeting its expenses to attend the conventlono SECTION 3: This allocation of mandatory student fees will improve the ability of UCSU to serve students and will provide direct benefits to students in general.
