BILL HISTORY

The University Student Government, and the University at large has in recent years
taken a firm stand in opposing violence against women. It actively supports such
programs as Nightride/Nightwalk, the Committee on Personal Safety, the
Committee on Sexual Harassment, most recently the very successful DARE
program, and many other educational programs on subjects like acquaintance rape
and abusive relationships. UCSU has also provided assistance for the annual Take
Back the Night Week, during which a series of public lectures, films, workshops and
discussion groups focusing on the issue of violence against women are given. The
week culminates with the Take Back the Night March and a film and workshop for
men at the Boulder Bandshell. This year's 9th anniversary of this international
event will be held at the University on October 10 - 14, 1988.
Some of this year's workshops will include: 1) "Model Mugging" self-defense
program demonstration; 2) a speaker on the upcoming pro-choice initiative vote;
and 3) a film/discussion for men on how they can help stop violence against women.
BILL SUMMARY

This bill allocates $838.40 + GAR from Executive Council Central Reserve to cover
advertising and rental costs for Take Back the Night Week, October 10- 14, 1988.
BE IT ENACTED by the Executive Council of the University of Colorado Student
Union, THAT:

SECTION 1:

This bill allocates $838.40 + GAR from Executive Council
Central Reserve to cover advertising and rental costs for Take
Back the Night Week, October 10- 14, 1988.

SECTION 2:

This bill takes effect upon passage.
