--~ 29 EXECUTIVE COUNCIL BILL /131 October 13, 1988 UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO STUDENT UNION Sponsored by: Representative-at-Large Journalism Represen ta ti ve Education Representative Sean Murphy Kristine Jones Alysa Lanning Authored by: PRSSA Vice President Pete Baumgartner Tanya Reinberg A BILL BILL HISTORY . PRSSA, Public Relations Student Society of America, is a pre-professional organization whose main goal is to provide students with learning experiences pertaining to public realtions. PRSSA provides students with a link to local professionals in the PR field. National Conference Each November, PRSSA members from chapters across the country convene for five days of plenary sessions, round tables, seminars, and workshops. PRSSA, the professional organization, holds its conference simultaneously, giving students opportunities to meet professionals from all sectors of public relations. The ,conference gives members a chance to meet PR students nationwide and to learn from some of the profession's top practitioners. This year, the 41st PRSSA National Conference is being held November 12-16, in Cincinnatti, Ohio, at the Omin-Netherland Plaza Hotel. Chapter CU's chapter of PRSSA boasts a membership of 30 members representing a wide variety of majors. Journalism School Dean Joanne Arnold is our faculty advisor, and we have professional advisors from both Wells Communications of Boulder, and the Manville Corporation in Denver. We will bring several PR professionals to campus as speakers, including the man who handled Coors' recent "rat in the can" crisis. We will also revive a PRSSA tradition of producing our own newsletter for distribution to other PRSSA chapters. We want to be recognized as the top chapter in the Rocky Mountain region, and we feel we'll soon achieve that. Benefits The benefits of sending delegates to the National Conference are great for the chapter as well as the university. The various workshops, seminars and plenary sessions held during each time segment over the five days warrants more than one member's attendance. The more sessions that we attend, the more information we can bring back to our chapter, increasing our members knowledge and awareness. We will devote a great deal of time "passing on" the information that we gained from the conference to the rest of the chapter. ยท BILL SUMMARY This bill would allocate an amount not to exceed $836.00 plus GAR from central reserve to help fund H'e sending of two delegates to the Public Relations Student Society of America National Conference.
