' I • ,..,;, 29 EXECUTIVE COUNCIL BILL 1/40 UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO STUDENT UNION Sponsored by: Pharmacy Representatives Joan Sawaya Phil Turner Authored by: Pharmacy Representatives A BILL Joan Sawaya BILL HISTORY Academy of Students uf Pharmacy (ASP) is the University of coloraoo's largest Pharmacy School organization with a membership of 75% of the school's students. ASP also encourages pre-pharmacy students to join and become active ln the school activities. A mer lean Pharmaceutical Assocla tion is the parent organization for ASP. Each year they have a midyear regional conference where both ASP and APhA members can attend. This conference is November 10-13 in San Francisco, CA. and will be represented by all pharmacy schools in eight western states, including California, Arizona, and Colorado. There will be several workshop sessions and lectures on various subjects concerning pharmacy including the National Medic Alert Pharmacy Program, a career options workshop and a forum on current trends in paharmacy . practice. The conference will enable us to represent the CU School of Pharmacy and to gain knowledge and exposure to current ideas which we will bring back and share to enhance our education and our school. ASP ls active in both the University &. Bolder /Denver community. This year we are volunteering health screenings for "Dance for Heart" presented by the American Heart Association. Also we are again involved in doing voluteer work for the na tiona! program on "Chronicle on Drug Abuse" wihich educates elementary & jr. high school students on drug abuse. This spring ASP is planning to begin a new tradition by presenting a "Pharmacy Career Day". The program will include speakers and booths from a wide variety of companies to demonstrate the many possible career options available in the pharmacy field. This will be a great benefit for -c urrent pharmacy students, as well as to incoming students who are still undecided ln their area of study. BILL SUMMARY This bill allocates $7 50.no to the members of the Academy of Students of Pharmacy of the Unlv. o.~ Colo. for the midyear regional conference. BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Council of the University of Colorado Student Union, THAT: SECTION 1: An amount not to exceed $7 50.00 + GAR will be allocated to the Academy of Students of Pharmacy. SECTION 2: A written report will be submitted pursuant to 24 ECB /14.
