October 6, 1988 29 EXECUTIVE COUNCIL RESOLUTION 103 UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO STUDENT UNION Sponsored by: Engineering Represen ta ti ve Representatives-at-Large Authored by: Engineering Represen ta ti ve Education Representative Journalism Representative Representative-at-Large Les Lambert Rob Corry David Hummels Les Lambert Paul Benfield Jim Mahoney David Hummels A RESOLUTION WHEREAS: The Student "Information" System drop/add fiasco was a negligent victimization of the student body; WHEREAS: The drop/ add "process" resulted in inexcusable inconvenience for those students in dire need of adding classes; WHEREAS: The administration demonstrated inconceivable lack of foresight in allowing an unproven, untested system staffed by inexperienced terminal operators to be the sole avenue in the obtaining of classes; WHEREAS: The communication between the SIS Steering Committee, the administration, the terminal operators, the Student Union, the various departments, and those volunteers who assisted students in line was beset with incongruence and lack of direction; WHEREAS: The students have paid for a defective system riddled with mismanagement; and WHEREAS: The administration has provided no demonstrable guarantee that another disaster will be averted in the future; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Executive Council of the University of Colorado Student Union, THAT: SECTION 1: The administration must implement reforms such as those outlined in the "Executive Report on the SIS Implementation." SECTION 2: Communication must be intensified between all departments and should include the Student Union. SECTION 3: Logistics for spring semester 1989 must begin immediately. SECTION 4: On-line schedule registration must be expanded to include immediate on-line schedule confirmation. SECTION 5: Academic advising must become more readily available to those students taking part in drop/ add. SECTION 6: The class schedule must be revised to include more major information and classroom locations. 29 EXECUTIVE COUNCIL RESOLUTION 0103- page 2 SECTION 7: Telephone registration and drop/add must be supplemented with other easily accessible means for those students who desire a choice. SECTION 8: The administration must provide palpable leadership and accountability in its managing of the drop/add process in the future. SECTION 9: If ever the leadership vacuum displayed by the administration with regard to SIS results in the victimization of students on the scale that occurred during drop/add, the Student Union will sanction strong measures against the administration.
