The goals and objectives of the CU Forensics Team are to carry out the activities of competing in intercollegiate speech and deba·te tournaments for the purpose of expanding the abilities of student competitiors to speak fluently and persuasively before audiences. b. Promote forums for public speaking and debate on campus, specifically, Irish Debates, Model U.N., Amnesty Int'l, U.N. Week, Colorado High School Speech Tournament. c. The Speech Association aims to serve the student competitors and the University community in general, since the team represents the University of Colorado at every tournament we travel to. d. Maintain a high level of competition at 13 Regional and 4 National Intercollegiate Tournaments. In order to achieve the above aims, the C.U. Forensics Team seeks funds, 35¢ per student (an increase of 10¢ per student), to cover opera tiona! costs, as well as increases in per a tiona! costs and a significant increase in membership over the last six years. BILL SUMMARY ·This bill seeks a 35¢ per student allocation from mandatory student fees per semester (representing a 10¢ per student increase from the previous referendum) for the maintenance of the C.U. Speech Association/Forensics. BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Council of the University of Colorado Student Union, THAT: SECTION 1: Passage of this bill would put the following referendum question on the Spring 1989 election ballot: "Shall the University of Colorado Student Union fund the CU speech and debate team at 35¢ per student per semester for a period of 3 years from mandatory student fees (representing an increase of 10¢ per student from the previous six years to cover increased student participation)?"
