30 EXECUTIVE BILL 115 January 12, 1989 UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO STUDENT UNION Sponsored by: Tri-Executives Authored by: Tri-Executive Chris Drummond Susie Fairchild Tim Kauffman Tim Kauffman A BILL BILL HISTORY February 1, 1989 marks the beginning of Black History Month, but unlike those of previous years, the affects of this event will be magnified by a unifying teleconference satellite link between participants at major colleges, universities, military installations, secondary schools, na tiona! associations and federal and state agencies nationwide. This years' Black History Month will be titled Beyond the Dream: A Celebration of Black History, and will initiate discussions on education, politics, business and economics, social issues, the military and arts entertainment and sports through six major program segments. This telecommunications event promises to be interacton through a special tollfree number, so participants can ask questions and make comments "on the air". Also, it will attract tremendous levels of local and na tiona! interest through the appearances of Mary Futrell, President of the NEA; Air Force General Bernard Randolph; Judith Eaton, President of Philadelphia Community College; and Take 6, a contemporary jazz gospel sextet. The total cost of the exent will be $2,175, and $700.00 in funding has been secured from the Black/Ethnic Advocacy Funds, and the Multicultural Center for Counseling and Community Development. More funding is being sought from CSERA (the Center for Students of Race and Ethnicity in America), the Year Long Symposium Celebrating All People and Associate Vice Chancellor Henson's office. An amount of $678.60 + GAR is sought to fund the advertising for this teleconference. For further bugetary information, see the attached budget. BILL SUMMARY This bill seeks $678.60 + GAR for advertising for the Black History Month teleconference -Beyond the Dream: A Celebration of Black History. BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Council of the University of Colorado Student Union, THAT: SECTION 1: An amount not to exceed $610.60 + GAR shall be granted to the Black Student Association for advertisements of the Black History Month teleconference -Beyond the Dream: A Celebration of Black History. SECTION 2: A report shall be written pursuant to 24 ECB /14.
