---February 2, 1989 30 LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL BILL 1/24 UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO STUDENT UNION Sponsored by: Engineering Represen ta ti ve Represen ta ti ves-a t-Large Jeff Miller Robert Ervais Dawn Massop Authored by: Conference Chairman A BILL Ian Stevenson BILL HISTORY The Student Chapter of the University of Colorado, Boulder, has the honor of being the host for the 1989 Rocky Mountain Regional Conference scheduled for April 7 and 8, 1989. Each year the Rocky Mountain Region Student Chapters of the American Society of Civil Engineers participate in a regional conference that is designed to foster communication between the students of the attending universities. This region includes eleven schools of various states--the University of Utah, Utah State University, Brigham Young University, the University of Wyoming, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Colorado School of Mines, Colorado State University, Metropolitan State College, United State Air Force Academy, the University of Colorado, Denver and the University of Colorado, Boulder. The conference is open to all students of the University of Colorado. The 1989 conference contests include the traditional concrete canoe races; an eggdrop contest, which will require students to construct a device that will protect a raw egg from breaking when dropped from approxiamately 8 stories, and mystery design competition, which enables students to corn pete ln a time-llmi ted, on the spot design competl tion. Also included in these competl tions is the non-technical and technical paper competition. The competitions will take place over two days and will be interspersed with various social activities such as a social evening, a picnic during the canoe races, and closing awards banquet. Although we will be charging each participant a registration fee, the money collected will not cover all the cost of the conference. In addition many of our expenses must be paid before we receive any conference registration fees, and we therefore must procure funding from outside 's ources prior to the conference from alumni and local engineering firms, and have received funding from our Department and College. However, the monies we have received to date are _ insufficient to cover the expected expenses.
