BILL HISTORY
The Buffalo 500, a student-run campus bicycle race, sanctioned by the United
States Cycling Federation and endorsed by the Jimmie Heuga Foundation, has been
in the works since the Summer of 1988. After hundreds of hours of work by and
input from students, faculty, staff, administrators, & corn muni ty members, the
organization process is quickly coming to a close and the actual race will soon be
underway. The race, a collective effort on behalf of the CU community, will be
comprised of a collegiate race for statewide official university cycling teams in
the morning (to which no UCSU funds will be channeled), and a citizens race in the
afternoon, targeted primarily at student groups.
The Buffalo 500 is a campus-wide university activity designed to promote
university unity. The bike race will be held on April 22, 1989 from 9am to 5pm on
the Farrand Feild track and infeild. Placed conveniently after the last wave of
mid-terms and well before the study period before finals, the Buffalo 500 will quite
definitely attract the attention and attendance of a variety of community and
university members.
In order to promote an event of this magnitude an advertising budget of
approximately $5000 is needed. We are asking UCSU Legislative Council for
$2000. This money will help to promote UCSU, the Boulder Campus, and student
involvement in the Buffalo 500.
BILL SUMMARY
This bill will provide $2000 + GAR from Central Reserve to support the advertising
for the Buffalo 500 campus bike race, on April 22, 1989.
BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Council of the University of Colorado Student
Union, THAT:
SECTION 1:

Legislative Council allocates from Central Reserve an amount
not to exceed $2000 + GAR towards funding for the Buffalo
500 Bike Race.

SECTION 2:

A written report will be submitted within one month after
the date of the race (April 22, 1989) pursuant to 24 ECB 114.

SECTION 3:

This bill will take effect upon passage.
