The unusual shortness of Christmas Break created a nightmare for many students and administrators alike for many reasons, including the following: -Students were rushed unnecessarily in their attempts to return home jn time for the Christmas holiday. (particularlly out-of-state travelers) -Faculty were rushed unnecessarily to grade papers, exams and end-of-the semester projects in time for mailings. -Some students, who were on probation for academic or other reasons had already moved back to Boulder before their notification of suspension/termination reached them or their families, causing unexcusable expense to them and their families. -students were unnecessarily rushed in their efforts to find gifts for their friends, and families. BILL SUMMARY This bill places a referendum question on the Spring 1989 UCS U Election Ballot regarding the future of Christmas. BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative-C-ouncil of theLJn1versity-oFColorado Student Union, THAT: SECTION 1: The following question shall be placed on the Spring 1989 election ballot: "Would you be willing to return to classes one week earlier in the fall semester to ensure more vacation days before the winter holidays than in the fall semester of 1988 ?"
