·:---- 30 LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL BILL //47 March 16, 1989 UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO STUDENT UNION Sponsored by: Tri-Executive Tim Kauffman Authored by: Tri-Executive Tim Kauffman A BILL BILL HISTORY For thousands of years, women have been s-ubject to oppression and discrimination based solely on gender. While our society has made substantial advances in recognizing the rights of women, institutional sexism and societal sexism has prevented women from making advancements proportional to their efforts and qualifications. Often times, financial resorces for education are inavailable to women who are otherwise more than qualified to matriculate in institutions of higher education. This shortage of money can also be the factor that keeps women from persuing a degree, as non-traditional students, and advancing to their own self determined potential. · The Women's Incentive Fund (WIF) has been created to eliminate, in part, this . restriction that women encounter, and is available to them based on need. As the sources for this fund grow, the bonds that society places on women will begin to · deteriorate as we per sue a nonsexist society. This year's WIF applicants as well as the coordinators and students will attend a WIF Awareness reception on April 9 at 12-2pm to meet the applicants and find out more about the WIF. BILL SUMMARY This bill allocates $220.00 + GAR from Central Reserve to fund publications for the WIF applicants reception on April 9th at 12 - 2pm in Koenig Alumni Center. BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Council of the University of Colorado Student Union, THAT: SECTION 1: An amount not to exceed $220.00 + GAR will be allocated from Central Reserve for publications for the WIF reception.
