BILL HISTORY
Dave Foreman is considered one of today's most outspoken environmentalists.
During the 1970s Foreman worked for The Wilderness Society as the Southwest
Regional Representative and later as their lobbyist in Washington, D.C. Frustrated
with mainstream environmentalism's lack of accomplishments, Foreman co-founded
the Earth First! movement in 1980.

The Earth First! movement promotes the philosophy of Deep Ecology, which is the
belief that the natura : environment has rights in and of itself. Dave Foreman is
the principal speaker of the Earth First! movement in the western United States, as
well the former editor of the Earth First! Journal for six years. He will share his
insights and perceptions of the future of environmentalism in the West. Foreman
last spoke in Boulder in Fall 1985 when he packed the Forum Room. The
opportunity for -such a noted environmentalist to speak in Boulder will increase
awareness of the environmental problems in the West on campus and inspire
students to become involved in the environmental movement.
The CU Wilderness Study Group requested funding from the Cultural Events Board
for this event,but was denied due to overwhelming number of requests CEB
received.
BILL SUMMARY
This bill would provide funding of $1310.00 + GAR from Central Reserve for Dave
Foreman to come to CU and speak on March 16, 1989 in Duane Physics G030 at
7:30pm.
BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Council of the University of Colorado Student
Union, THAT:

SECTION 1:

An amount not to exceed $1310.00 + GAR from Centraf
Reserve for Dave Foreman to come to CU and speak.

SECTION 2:

A written report will be submitted pursuant to 24 ECB 1/4.

SECTION 3:

This bill shall take effect upon passage.
