~ August 15, 1989 31 LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL BILL /114 UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO STUDENT UNION Sponsored by: Representatives-at-Large Authored by: Representative-at-Large A BILL Wendy Wyman Jason Ehrich Charles Ellis Myer Weitzman Doug Busch Wendy Wyman BILL HISTORY The Third Annual Men's Conference continues the highly successful exploration of men's issues of the last 2 years. Attendance at last year's Men's Conference increased 30-40% from the already well attended First Men's Conference, and we believe even more will attend this year. Obviously, your funding was critical for our last two conferences, and it is especially true this year. Although we are asking more from you this year, our actual total costs have decreased from last year. The main reason for our larger request is funding for the Geoff Morgan concert. Geoff is the only recording artist who sings and talks primarily about men's issues - and as president for the National Organization for Changing Men, he will also be a valuable speaker on several panels/workshops. With the Third Annual Men's Conference, CU continues to be in the forefront of addressing men's issues in a positive and meaningful way. The Men's Conference's perspective also complements the excellence and necessity of International Women's Week. Given the tremendous response we received at last year's conference, we have decided to expand the number of events to 18 this year, and diversify the range of topics covered to try to attract a wider cross-section of people. To this end, we are asking the UCSU Legislative Council to fund two events, Wednesday night's free movie I Never Sang For My Father and Saturday night's perfomance by men's singer/songwriter Geoff Morgan, as well as provide funding for the Conference's Advertising. We are also seeking funding from a number of administrative discretionary accounts such as Chancellor James Corbridge and Dean Middleton. Topics which will be discussed in the various panels include Redefining Masculinity, Relating to Our Fathers, Sex and Intimacy, Relationships and Dating, Men and Feminism, Single Fatherhood, Homophobia and Heterosexism, Men and Racism, several open discussions, etc. BILL SUMMARY This bill allocates $2403.00 + GAR to the Campus Men's Caucus for the 3rd Annual Men's Conference to be held Sept. 25-30.
