July 20, 1989 31 LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL BILL //6 UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO STUDENT UNION Sponsored by: Business Representative Business Representative Engineering Representative Kathleen Leake Dana Brand Mike Drews Authored by: Vice President, Delta Sigma Pi Business Representative A BILL Jon Bartlett Kathleen Leake BILL HISTORY Delta Sigma Pi is a professional fraternity organized to foster the study of business by encouraging scholarship, social activity, and by promoting a close affiliation between the commercial world and students of commerce. Currently, they have 96 active members making this organization one of the largest student groups in the College of Business. C U Boulder's Alpha Rho chapter of Delta Sigma Pi has greatly influenced the entire campus since the 1926 installation. We continually bring speakers to campus on subjects such as job hunting, leadership skills and teamwork development. In recent years these speeches have drawn an increasing number of non-business students. We have come to ask the Legislative Council to assist us in sending representatives to our Grand Chapter Congress, in St. Louis, MO between August 12-18. Although the Conference doesn't start until the 13th, we are saving nearly $200 per ticket because they will be out there a week (according to United Airlines). From the Council we are seeking air-fare transportation costs for 2 of our four delegates, registration for one. Student Finance has quoted us a price of $282 for one round trip ticket. The registration is $135 and without the regi stration supplement we would only be able to send three representatives. Delta Sigma Pi has done fund-raising this semester, thus enabling us to allocate $100 for each of our representatives. We've received total funding of $170 from our National Office. The Business School's frozen funds won't permit the Dean to fund us. However, we were able to receive $250 funding from the Business Board. BILL SUMMARY This bill allocates $564 + GAR to Delta Sigma Pi for two round trip tickets and one registration for their Grand Chapter Congress in St. Louis, MO between August 1218. BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislative Council of the University of Colorado Student Union, THAT: SECTION 1: An amount not to exceed $564 + GAR shall be allocated to Delta Sigma Pi's agency account from Legislative Council Central Reserve. ,. 31 LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL BILL 06- Page 2 SECTION 2: A written report will be submitted pursuant to 24 ECB lilt.
