- ~.,"' July 6, 1989 31 LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL RESOLUTION #105 UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO STUDENT UNION Sponsored by: Tri-Executive Graduate Representative Arts & Sciences Representative Tracy Wahl ZulahKaren Eckert Kurt Colburn Authored by: Tri-Executive A RESOLUTION Tracy Wahl WHEREAS: In April of 1989, Arts and Sciences Dean, Charles Middleton, announced there would be a 1 million dollar shortfall in the T A/GPTI budget for the 1989-90 fiscal year. WHEREAS: This cut would impact T A/GPTI positions, and course offering to undergraduates, as well as possible impacts on class sizes for undergraduates. WHEREAS: The timing of this announcement was detrimental to graduate students, the cuts were announced after the cut-off for GSL loans for the following year. WHEREAS: These cuts conflict directly with goals 3 and 4 of the strategic plan of the University of Colorado which read, respectively: "TO PROVIDE AN EXCEPTIONAL UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE," and "TO INCREASE THE STRENGTH AND VITALITY OF RESEARCH AND GRADUATE PROGRAMS." WHEREAS: At the May, 1989 Regent meeting Chancellor James Corbridge announced that the cuts would be restored, but "only temporarily." THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislative Council of the University of Colorado Student Union, THAT: SECTION 1: Effective immediately, student input, both undergraduate and graduate, be solicited at least two weeks in advance on budget decisions that will directly affect either T A/GPTI positions, or graduate/undergraduate course offerings. SECTION 2: The University must substantially increase the Arts and Sciences base budget in order to avoid future problems.
