Kessler A BILL BILL HISTORY SEAC (Student Envi~onroental Action Coalition) was created two years ago to organize and~:ne.twork college and high-school campuses around environmental issu~.s. This organization foresaw the large current interest an~ invoiyen.,~nt of students. in our -global . problems. In the spring of 1996 SEAC held a conference at the University of North Carolina which drew nearly 2,000 student organizers from 50 , states. This conference served as the mantelpiece for what is now the world's fastest growing student organization. Having been endorsed by world famous environmental and social activists such as David Brower, Jessee Jackson and Dennis Hayes, SEAC has drawn vast media' attention as well as student involvement. SEAC understands that the great work put towards Earth Day 21990 by . campuses all around the work, led by cu, was a catalyst for ongoing. student involvement. On October 5-7, .University of Illinois will be hosting "Catalyst", the second annual SEAC conference. This conference hopes to plan a year-long focus on corporate accountability and campus environmental concerns. An estimated 5,000 students from 50 states and 20 nations will attend this gala event including speeches, planning sessions and organizing . workshops. Keynote speakers will include Jessee Jackson, Dennis Hayes (Earth Day 1990) and UCSU Environmental Board Member Eric J. Kessler. As campuses look towards CU for inspiration regarding environmental organizing, several members and volunteers from the Environments Center will be representing the University of Colorado student ·body.* These individuals will al-s o return · to . cu- with · fresh organizing skills . as well as a larger perspective on student environmenta~ interests from all around the work. By giving ~ keynote speech and __t_wd accompanying workshops, Eric -J; Kessler will bring more acclaim for the ucsu Environmental Center and the cu student body as a whole. SECTION 2: ; Th~(c~:: participants in this conference. ·:Will . present . at :teast one workshop on organizational skills · gained at this conference to the UCSU Environmental Board~ The delegates will also be available to present workshops for any CU student group. SECTION 3: This bill takes effect upon passage. .
