In addition, FBI statistics show that one out of six men and one out of three women will be raped in a lifetime. The Boulder Rape Crisis Team received over 1,600 calls in the past year with 679 of the calls being actual rape victims,· with approximately 40% of those victims being students. In the spring semester of 1990 there wer,e several highly publicized rapes occurring on campus and on the hill, while to date there are no suspects for the perpetrators of these crimes. In June of this year two women were raped on the Boulder Creek Path and there was also an attempted rap~ in the same area. The Boulder i Police believe that all of these assaults are the acts of one assailant. Statistics show that a woman will be battered every 18 seconds. The majority of women who reported battering to the Boulder County Safehouse were the average college age, 18 - 29 years old. Suicide is the second leading cause of death-in college-age groups.
