A BILL
Currently, all UCSU Representatives and Senators receive pay during the fall and spring semester for fulfilling requirements set forth by the UCSU governing documents. As these time consuming and arduous tasks continue throughout the summer session, it is only appropriate that compensation should be received. It is recognized that UCSU legislators do not sit on joint boards during the summer and are required to attend fewer meetings, yet office hours and council meetings are mandatory. Although the Constitution mandates UCSU legislators to fulfill duties when school is in session, it is never mentioned that pay should or should not be given during the summer session. Since much work is done by legislators over the summer, it seems that they should be compensated.
Bill Summary
This bill allocates $5100 from SOR to cover summer term stipend pay for all applicable UCSU Representatives and Senators during the 59th session. Further, this bill requires summer pay be put into the UCSU annual budget hereafter as it is not outlined in any of the UCSU governing documents. this bill is in compliance with 50LCB#15 and 56LCB#11.
THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Council of
the University of Colorado Student Union, THAT,
SECTION 1: This bill allocates $5100 from SOR to the UCSU Legislative Council account in order to cover summer term stipend pay for all applicable UCSU Representatives and Senators during the 59th session according to Legislative Council Bylaws.
SECTION 2: This bill mandates that summer pay be included in the UCSU annual budget beginning with the 59th session of Legislative Council.
SECTION 3: This bill takes effect special order upon passage by special order of the Legislative Council and upon obtaining the signature of the Council President.
