A Resolution

Resolution History

The fact that many students own dogs, and that often these dog owners bring their pets to school is well known. There is a severe problem that arises because of this; which is the prevalence of dogs left tied to trees, bike racks or poles outside of buildings while their owners are inside eating, studying, attending class, etc. This issue needs to be addressed by this campus for many reasons; this is dangerous to the dog, there is a high likelihood of theft of the tied animal, this is animal neglect, and also the animal is often disruptive to nearby classes and students when left tied up alone.

Resolution Summary

Whereas: The act of bringing a personal pet onto the University of Colorado campus is a privilege, not a right.

Whereas: Chaining a dog or other pet to a tree or structure and leaving that animal unattended represents not only an extreme danger to that animal, but this act is also neglect of said animal.

Whereas: Chaining a dog or other pet to a tree or structure and leaving that animal unattended also disrupts classroom learning in nearby academic buildings.
