A Resolution Concerning the Presence of Concealed Weapons
on Higher
Education Campuses
Resolution History
The Colorado General Assembly is examining Senator Ken
Chiouber's SBO3-024 and Senator Jim Dyer's SBO3-025 this legislative session
dealing with concealed weapons in the state of Colorado. The majority of
University of Colorado, Boulder students, faculty, staff and administration are
opposed to allowing concealed weapons on the University of Colorado, Boulder
campus.
Resolution Summary
Whereas; The current Colorado General Assembly
proposed legislation does not explicitly exclude higher education facilities
from areas where concealed weapons permits are valid, whereas K-12 facilities
are excluded;
Whereas; The
current Colorado General Assembly proposed legislation would allow concealed
weapons in classrooms, stadiums, residence halls and common buildings on the
University of Colorado, Boulder campus;
Whereas; It is a duty for the University of Colorado
Student Union to work to protect the interests of University of Colorado
students:
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by University of Colorado Student Union, THAT,
SECTION 1. The University of Colorado Student Union is
opposed to allowing concealed weapons on the University of Colorado, Boulder
campus;
SECTION 2. The University of Colorado Student Union
calls on the Colorado General Assembly to explicitly state in legislation that
Higher Education governing boards shall maintain their current authority in
regulating concealed weapons on their campuses in any current or future
concealed weapons legislation;
SECTION 3. The
University of Colorado Student Union calls on the State of Colorado General
Assembly to include a specific exemption for higher education facilities to
prevent concealed weapons on campuses;
SECTION 4. The
University of Colorado Student Union calls on the University of Colorado,
Boulder administration and the University of Colorado system administration to
address these concerns at the state level regarding the pending legislation;
SECTION 5. This
resolution takes effect upon passage.
