Resolution History

Will Toor has served the University of Colorado Student Union as the Director of the Environmental Center since the Fall of 1992.  During his time as Director, Will has cultivated the Environmental Center into a nationally recognized entity through his nurturing leadership style, his unwavering commitment to mentoring tomorrow’s leaders, his incredible intellect and ability to find solutions to the complex issues facing the campus.


Resolution Summary

 

WHEREAS: Will Toor has served the University of Colorado Student Union faithfully as Director of the Environmental Center for 12 (twelve) years beginning in the Fall of 1992,

 

WHEREAS: Will Toor has cultivated the Environmental Center from 3 (three) staff positions and a handful of student employees and volunteers to a nationally recognized institution consisting of 6 (six) staff positions, 50 (fifty) student staff and over 300 (three hundred) student volunteers annually,

 

WHEREAS: Will Toor has been and continues to be an exemplary public official in service not only to the students at the University of Colorado at Boulder in the capacity of Director of the Environmental Center, but to the greater University of Colorado System as a resource for developing their own initiatives, the City of Boulder as a member of the City Council and Mayor of Boulder, the Denver Regional Council of Governments as Vice-Chair, and now the Citizens of Boulder County as County Commissioner,

 

WHEREAS: Will Toor has served many students as a professor in the Department of Environmental Studies thus furthering his commitment to educating tomorrow’s decision makers about contemporary environmental issues facing campuses, communities, nations, and the world,

 

WHEREAS: Will Toor guided the University of Colorado Student Union in the largest purchase of wind energy by a university at that time in the Spring of 2000 election which set a new standard for other universities to follow and exceed,

 

WHEREAS: Will Toor has guided the Environmental Center in developing myriad programs that have been emulated by many campuses across the country and the world,

 

WHEREAS: Will Toor has led the Environmental Center in receiving numerous awards and accolades including, but not limited to, the first ever Outstanding School Recycling Program Award given by the National Recycling Coalition, the Way To Go Award for the Bus Pass program given by the Environmental Protection Agency, the Climate Protection Award given by the Environmental Protection Agency, the Green Power Leadership Award given by the Environmental Protection Agency, the Wirth Chair Recognition given by CU-Denver, the Higher Education EE Award for Excellence given by the Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education, the PLAN Boulder County Award given by PLAN Boulder County, and the Sustainable Resources Award given by Solutions to World Poverty,

 

WHEREAS: Will Toor has received personal recognition from many organizations for his leadership while as Director of the Environmental Center including the National Coalition Against the Misuse of Pesticides and the Sierra Club,

 

WHEREAS: Will Toor has authored a nationally recognized book on transportation and sustainable campus communities during his Directorship of the Environmental Center,

 

WHEREAS: Will Toor has aided in the development and implementation of programs that save the University of Colorado at Boulder $5.5 - $5.9 Million annually.  Consequently, he has developed the Environmental Center into not only one of the most important environmental centers in the nation, but also one of the most wise investments made by the University of Colorado Student Union through its strong commitment to keeping tuition and fees low through sound environmental and fiscal policy,

 

WHEREAS: Will Toor is not only a fantastic father to his own two children, but has served as a mentor to hundreds of students at the University of Colorado at Boulder and within the community,

 

WHEREAS: Will Toor will be deeply missed by the University of Colorado Student Union not only for his generous contributions to the campus and community, but also because he has impacted so many lives at this institution for such an extended period of time in a positive way,

 

WHEREAS: The University of Colorado Student Union wishes the best in life for Will Toor in all his professional and personal endeavors.

 

 

 

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislative Council of the University of Colorado Student Union, THAT:

 

SECTION 1:  The University of Colorado Student Union recognizes that Will Toor has served as an exemplary leader within the University of Colorado at Boulder community.

 

SECTION 2: The University of Colorado Student Union recognizes that Will Toor has had a profound and lasting positive impact on the University of Colorado at Boulder Campus.

 

SECTION 3:  The University of Colorado Student Union recognizes that Will Toor has been and continues to be a powerful ally of students.

 

SECTION 4: The University of Colorado Student Union recognizes that Will Toor has been an exceptional role model for students, faculty, and staff at the University of Colorado at Boulder and in the greater community.

 

SECTION 5:  The University of Colorado Student Union recognizes that Will Toor will be deeply missed by the membership of the University of Colorado Student Union.

 

SECTION 6:  The University of Colorado Student Union wishes the best to Will Toor in his future endeavors.

 

SECTION 7:  ENACTMENT. This resolution takes effect upon passage by the Legislative Council and upon obtaining the signatures of the Council President and the Tri-Executives.
