G.O.R.D. Mission Statement:
G.O.R.D., Guidelines and Objectives of Responsible Drinking, is a group desiring to engage an educated community to act responsibly in all social situations. GORD is committed to challenging the false perceptions of alcohol use and abuse commonly viewed among our peers. Through education and promotion about responsible alcohol use, G.O.R.D. intends to grow a strong network of people who live by these three objectives.
1. I will understand the risks involved
2. I will be mindful of my surroundings
3. I will spread awareness
The people associated with GORD add intangible value to the community that builds stronger relationships among different peer groups and the community at large. These relationships become dependant on each other to watch out for friends to not use alcohol excessively. Those who follow G.O.R.D.’s objectives are committed to remembering Lynn Gordon “Gordie” Bailey by the constant reminder of the G.O.R.D. keychain to be responsible when faced with the decision to drink alcohol.
The G.O.R.D. Principals:
College universities are experiencing a large amount of high-risk alcohol use on campuses nationwide. The G.O.R.D. initiative combats this problem and creates awareness of how alcohol use can be dangerous in any social setting without the proper guidance. Efforts to create an environment of abstinence will be unrealistic in a modern college campus. Rather, we are more effective by educating fellow students on the risks involved with drinking and instilling values to use alcohol conservatively and responsibly.
G.O.R.D.’s objectives are:
a. Spread and teach alcohol risk awareness
i. Alcohol Poisoning
ii. Abuse of hard alcohol
iii. Promote responsible drinking
iv. Unintentional injuries caused by excessive drinking.
b. Help people be aware in their social surroundings
i. Preventing other people from drinking excessively
ii. Know the signs of alcohol poisoning
iii. Understand what to do if an individual is in need of help
c. Educate fellow students on the presented issues
i. Begin by marketing to University of Colorado students
ii. Alcohol Awareness Convention March 1st, 2005. Keynote speaker Josh Goldman presenting on education of high risk social drinking.
iii. Use the Greek system as an awareness channel and a communication vehicle
iv. Use the university faculty and administration as a resource
v. Use all Chi Psi Alphas to bring the G.O.R.D. campaign to colleges nationwide.
G.O.R.D. Programs:
G.O.R.D. will specifically target leaders from different social groups around campus, and will focus its efforts on programs to reach out to all individuals associated. We will start at the University of Colorado-Boulder campus and intend to spread our message using other Chi Psi chapters at universities around the country.
To be successful in spreading our campaign to college and high school students, G.O.R.D. intends to use the following programs as resources to achieve our mission.
a. College Students
i. Sell key chains to spread knowledge, create awareness, and raise money for The Gordie Foundation and future G.O.R.D. programs.
ii. Organize events on college campuses including fundraisers or educational assemblies where doctors and other professionals are keynote speakers.
b. Greek System
i. Establish all Greeks as leaders in this alcohol awareness campaign.
ii. Go to fraternity and sorority houses to speak about responsible and safe alcohol policies for fraternal & social functions.
iii. Work on a mandatory program for fraternity and sorority officers and members to promote responsible and safe policies.
c. High Schools
i. Meet with seniors to teach them about alcohol and its risks.

ii. Teach them how to respond appropriately to peer pressure.
iii. Organize speakers and assemblies in local schools.
iv. Provide an educational video to show students at assembly.
d. Web Site
i. Provide contact information for G.O.R.D. foundation
ii. Explain how to make donations and order products
iii. Have links to other related sites, charities, and educational programs.
iv. Provide information on signs of alcohol poisoning
v. Communicate ongoing G.O.R.D. projects and news
GORD Products & Marketing:
Keychain:
The carabineer and keychain were chosen as our product because it is a simple and tangible tool used in many college students’ every day lives. The purpose of the keychain is to be a constant reminder for people to be safe and responsible in all social situations. Throughout the day it will be seen whenever one’s keys are used. For example, when students unlock their door or start their cars, they will be reminded of the G.O.R.D. objectives. It can also serve as a marketing tool. People will be able to show the keychain to their friends, thus further spreading G.O.R.D.’s message.
