Bill History

The UCSU and the University of Colorado at Boulder administration have had a long standing commitment to the environment and our student bus pass. This commitment has been seen through our long standing bus pass program. This year the RTD contract needed to be renegotiated. RTD had requested an increase of 88%. The E-Center worked with the Tri-executives, Boulder city officials, and the administration to bring the increase under 10% so that the whole bus pass would not be in jeopardy of failing and our campus losing this program. So the Sky Ride was cut to make the contract work. Many students use this service and now the students will be given the chance to voice their opinion. The Sky Ride is now in the hands of the voting student population.

Bill Summary

This bill places the Sky Ride addition to the bus pass on the ballot for the Spring 2006 elections.

THEREFORE BE IT ENACTED, by the Legislative Council of the University of Colorado Student Union, THAT

Section 1: The following question shall be put on the ballot for the Spring 2006 election:

"Do you support the addition of 15 dollars ($15.00) per semester to your bus pass fee to keep the Sky Ride service? Yes ( ) No ( )"

Section 2: The purpose statement for this referendum shall be:

"The purpose of this referendum is to purchase the added service of the Sky Ride so it can be retained in our student bus pass program.”

Section 3: The budget for this referendum shall be as follows:

"These funds will be used to maintain current levels of service including the SkyRide in the RTD contract.”

Section 4: This bill takes effect upon passage by the Legislative Council and upon obtaining the signatures of the Legislative Council President and the Tri-executives.
