A Resolution

Administrative Change in the Arts and Cultural Enrichment Fee (ACE Fee)

Resolution History

            The Arts and Cultural Enrichment Fee (ACE Fee) has provided tremendous benefit to the arts on campus as well as the student body at large since its implementation in June 1995. The ACE Fee recipients currently include: The Museum of Natural History, the Department of Film Studies, the Art Museum, the Department of Theatre and Dance, and the College of Music. ACE Fee funding allows for discounts, community outreach, and programs which would otherwise not be possible.

            With the assistance of the ACE Fee, its recipients have been able to offer benefits to the student body including: discounted and free tickets to events, programs featuring visiting artists and presenters, increased performance and presentation opportunities,  advertising for student programs within the community,  funding for world music and dance ensembles, and enhancement of campus art galleries and displays. The loss of the ACE Fee on campus would have a devastating effect on the arts at the University of Colorado, impacting over 700 events and 150,000 participants annually.

               Since its implementation, the ACE Fee has been renewed and increased three times at the request of the Legislative Council, which each time recognized the value of the arts activities to all students on the Boulder campus. The ACE Fee is currently an administrative fee governed by the Administrative Fee Review Board and the Boulder Campus Fee Advisory Board. As an administrative fee it is not controlled by UCSU.

Resolution Summary

Whereas the programs sponsored by the ACE Fee are an integral and necessary part of arts and culture on our campus, and;

Whereas UCSU does not control the administration of this fee

Whereas the ACE fee stands as the only non-recurring administrative fee on this campus

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislative Council of the University of Colorado Student Union, THAT,

SECTION 1:  The Legislative Council of the University of Colorado Student Union recommends the Arts and Cultural Enrichment fee be changed to a recurring administrative fee.
