A Resolution to Re-Evaluate Our Position on IFC Fraternities

Resolution History

In recent years the relationship between the University of Colorado and the Interfraternity Council underwent a fundamental change. The University administration proposed the Recognized Fraternal Organization Agreement, which required Greek Organizations to adhere to a set of standards, many of which were not required of other Student Groups.  Interfraternity Council chose not to accept these requirements and thus, they were separated from the University. Despite this separation, Fraternity life has continued to thrive at the University of Colorado at Boulder and the Chapters have remained committed to continued improvement. Notable achievements include a 15% annual increase in membership, raising over $100,000 annually for various philanthropic causes as well as putting in thousands of man-hours to benefit the Boulder community. Also important is the greatly improved relationship with the Boulder Police and Fire Department, which have established liaison programs with each chapter to provide services and maximize safety.

Resolution Summary

This Resolution recognizes the progress by member Chapters of the Interfraternity Council at the University of Colorado at Boulder, shows student support for their improvement, and recommends that this progress be reflected in University policy.

THEREFORE BE IT ENACTED:

Section 1:  Commends the member Chapters of the Interfraternity Council for their progress in their commitment to service, academic achievement, and risk management.

Section 2: Affirms student support for Fraternities on campus and their commitment to improvement.

Section 3: Recommends that the administration re-evaluate their current policy in regards to Interfraternity Council.
