It is a campaign of over 2.4 million people and growing from all 50 states and over 100 of America's most well-known and respected non-profit, advocacy and humanitarian organizations. ONE is raising public awareness about the issues of global poverty, hunger, disease and efforts to fight such problems in the world's poorest countries. Furthermore, ONE is dedicated to asking our leaders to do more to fight the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty. ONE believes that allocating more of the U.S. budget toward providing basic needs like health, education, clean water and food would transform the futures and hopes of an entire generation in the world's poorest countries. ONE is nonpartisan and works on the ground in communities, colleges and churches across the United States, both to educate and ask America's leaders to increase efforts to fight global AIDS and extreme poverty, from the U.S. budget and presidential elections to specific legislation on debt cancellation, increasing effective international assistance, making trade fair, and fighting corruption. ________________________________________________________________________  Resolution Summary  Whereas, healthy people and healthy communities are the centerpiece of any strong and vibrant society; and  Whereas, every three seconds a child dies from illnesses associated with extreme poverty; and  Whereas, nearly a billion people live on less than $1 a day; and Whereas, ONE is an effort by Americans to rally Americans, ONE by ONE, to fight extreme poverty and preventable disease globally; and Whereas, increasing our efforts will save millions of lives and improve the way America is seen around the world; and Whereas, directing additional resources for basic needs – education, health, clean water, food and care for orphans – would transform the futures and hopes of an entire generation in the poorest countries; and Whereas, ONE is an unprecedented non-partisan American movement and part of a fast-growing global movement to end extreme poverty; and Whereas, students have been at the forefront of many important American movements and will continue to fuel this ONE;  THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislative Council of the University of Colorado Student Union, THAT: Section 1, the University of Colorado is hereby proclaimed a campus of ONE.
