A Bill to Expand the Use of Funds for the Alternative Breaks
Program
Bill
History
Alternative
Breaks international travel is a top request from the CU-Boulder student
body. Students at the University of Colorado
have been requesting international Alternative Breaks trips for years. CU-Boulder is #2 for alumni currently in the
Peace Corps, one example of the demand to go outside the US in a service-related
manner. Students want to volunteer
abroad.
Alternative
Breaks is growing and we are looking to expand service to outside of the
national borders. We believe this will
provide Alternative Breaks with a new cross-cultural component, allowing us to
provide more opportunities for more students.
When students
come in inquiring about international travel, we can point them to a few
different directions. Alternative Breaks
would like to be able to provide that option so that we have the ability to
cultivate the Alternative Breaks community further, creating more leaders and
more civically engaged individuals in the local, national and international
communities.
We believe this
will provide positive public relations for the Alternative Breaks program,
which in turn will help to grow and expand the
program, potentially inviting donors to support Alternative Breaks and
therefore allow Alternative Breaks to open its doors to a more diverse student
body community, which is one of our ongoing goals.
Bill Summary
This bill allows the allocation of Student Fees to fund
international travel for the Alternative Breaks Program.
THEREFORE BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Council of the
University of Colorado Student Union THAT:
The Student Fee allocation for the
Alternative Breaks Program will now have the ability to fund international
travel.
