This bill would seek to begin providing structure to sustain Homecoming for the fiiture. As currently constructed, the executive staff member tasked with planning Homecoming does not have adequate time to prepare for the week of programming held during Homecoming, nor does their start date facilitate a path towards sustaining the future of the event. As such, the success of the event is hindered by the position start date and length. Bill Summary This bill alters the position start date for the executive staff member tasked with planning Homecoming to after January 15‘ and no later than 1 month after the Spring semester class start date. The student position would then run January to May (transition completion, approximately 1.5 years total) in order to aid in the transition of Homecoming. Whereas, Research shows that involvement on campus leads to increased retention; Whereas, University of Colorado Student Government is committed to enhancing the student experience of Homecoming at CU Boulder; Whereas, the executive staff member tasked with planning Homecoming is integral to the success of Homecoming; Whereas, having the executive staff member tasked with planning Homecoming work Spring and Summer months is necessary to sustain the planning of the week’s events. THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Council of the University of Colorado Boulder Student Government, in a simple majority THAT: Section 1: The incoming executive staff member tasked with planning Homecoming will be filled no later than one month after the start of spring classes.
